Our pets may be our best friends, but how do we get around the fact that they sometimes scratch our floors and rip our carpets, causing eyesores and expensive repairs. Well, here at Floor Coverings International® of Burr Ridge, we understand the dilemma perfectly and we are here to offer solutions! As pet lovers ourselves, we know the importance of having pet-friendly floors that are still beautiful, and below we listed 3 of our favorites!
Hardwood floors are gorgeous in any home, but that sense of beauty can quickly fade when they are all scratched up thanks to our pets’ clawing nails. Laminate is a tremendous alternative to hardwood, offering a similar aesthetic (you can choose from a variety of woods to mimic) at a more affordable price point without the risk of scratches.
It doesn’t get more durable in the flooring world than stone or tile. Whether you go darker in color with slate tile or stay on the lighter side with travertine, stone and tile are up to whatever you or your furry friends can throw at it. One potential downside to stone is that it can get cold beneath your feet in the Illinois winters, but technology has offered a tremendous solution. Have our experts at Floor Coverings International® of Burr Ridge install temperature-controlling coils beneath the tile to make the floor forever comfortable for you and your pets.
Most people do not associate carpet with being pet-friendly, but there is no reason why the two cannot go hand-in-hand when done properly. One thing to be aware of is the difference between loop pile carpets and cut pile carpets. As the name suggests, loop pile carpets mean the pile, or fiber strands, are in loops and connect on both sides to the backing of the carpet like a ring or hook. As you can imagine, these are a hazard for any animal with claws and would likely injure both your carpet and your pet if the claws hooked frequently. However, on cut pile carpets, those loops are cut to create twice as many strands and, more importantly, eliminate the risk that claws would get caught. Cut pile is extremely durable and is a great option for homes around Downers Grove, Bolingbrook, and Woodridge with pets.
